Employee Profile - Redesign

Project Overview:‍

This initiative involved the complete visual and functional redesign of the MetLife internal employee profiles, affecting over 70,000 global employees across the corporate intranet and Office 365 systems.

The focus on developing a modern, user-centric profile experience:

- Information Architecture: Reimagined the layout to facilitate quick access to essential information (e.g., job function, team, location) and promote knowledge sharing.

- User Engagement: Incorporated modern UX/UI patterns to encourage employees to complete and maintain their profiles, ensuring the collection of valuable, current organizational data.

Organization view 1.0

The interface presents a series of cards, each representing a distinct relationship category (Directs, Peers, Manager, Non-Employee). This structure clearly segments audience types for user selection in a series of tabs.

This view utilizes a hover state interaction on the relationship cards, which temporarily exposes additional contact details for the selected employee. This efficient pattern provides contextual information on demand without requiring the user to navigate away from the current page.

When the user clicks the previously hovered card, it initiates a flip interaction that fully exposes the user's complete contact details and corporate profile information. This explicit action ensures the user receives comprehensive data associated with the selected individual.

If the card view is not preferred, the user has the option to toggle an icon, which immediately switches the current organizational view to a list view. This feature ensures flexible data consumption tailored to individual user preferences.

- Expanded Data Matrix: Upon intentional expansion of the Personal Information tab, dense administrative data is organized into a clean, dual-column layout. By explicitly segmenting "Basic Information" from "HR Information," the design ensures rapid scannability of granular employee details.

- Designing for Urgency: When users access emergency contact information, the primary UX goal is frictionless speed. By stripping away non-essential UI elements and utilizing a straightforward table structure with clear visual indicators for primary contacts, the design allows users to locate critical phone numbers instantly when it matters most.

- Progressive Profile Expansion: Leverages a "View More/Less" toggle to progressively disclose secondary employee details without permanently consuming vertical screen real estate. Once expanded, a horizontal tab system organizes deep-dive information (like "About Me" and "Emergency Contact") into digestible, space-saving chunks.

- Interactive Relational Graph: A node-based data visualization mapping internal employee networks. Interacting with a connection dynamically populates a contextual side panel, surfacing shared collaborative artifacts, such as files, emails, and meetings.

- Federated Search Dashboard: Features a horizontal tabbed taxonomy to quickly filter results by high-level categories, paired with secondary dropdown refiners for granular, user-driven data sorting.

- Grid View: Translated internal user survey data into actionable UI enhancements by introducing a dynamic Grid-to-List view toggle, optimizing the People directory to accommodate diverse visual scanning preferences.

- Contextual Peer Endorsement Modal: Triggered by a prominent call-to-action button, this feature utilizes a focused modal overlay to facilitate skill validation. The multi-select checkbox list allows users to efficiently endorse co-workers for specific projects and tools without losing their place in the broader network directory.

- User-Managed Skill Dashboard: Architected a self-service governance UI for peer endorsements, empowering users to actively manage their professional identity. Implemented granular visibility controls and inline editing, ensuring employees retain full agency over how their skills and project contributions are surfaced across the enterprise directory.

— The redesign of the MetLife Employee Profile represents a fundamental shift from a static corporate directory to a dynamic, human-centric network ecosystem. By anchoring the platform's architecture in progressive disclosure, robust federated filtering, and intuitive data chunking, we successfully mitigated the cognitive load traditionally associated with dense enterprise systems.

Beyond structural improvements, this initiative actively bridged communication silos across the organization.
